Homework 9/17/2009

Due Date: Monday, September 21, 2009

Assignment: Morals, morals, morals. What makes a good moral? Today, we created modern fables with classic morals. Now, it is your job to create a modern moral. What makes a good modern moral? Well, probably the things that make a good modern fable. Think about the things relevant to you...especially technology. Create two modern morals and post them to the blog. Then, respond to a moral that your classmate created. Please make sure what you say is appropriate and constructive. Search for words beyond "nice job." Say why the moral is interesting, what it might say about society, or how it instructs! Have fun!!

  1. Think before you text. It may end up biting you in the butt.

A prison record is often mistaken for respect. Why do you think rappers are famous?

  2. The moral wisdom of Ani:

Don't start rolling on the floor after a Ravens touchdown, the play could get challenged and reversed. (Don't count your chickens before they're hatched)

Don't start shopping and eating at the airport for too long, you could miss your flight (Don't get sidetracked, it can only hurt you)

  3. Don't wait until the last minute to do an important research paper, you might just find that your internet is down. (Don't procrastinate!)

Don't take shortcuts during practice, it will only cost you during the meet. (Don't take the easy way out, you're only cheating yourself!)

Alex- I agree with your moral "Think before you text. It may end up biting you in the butt." You could make a joke but have it interpurted the wrong way because you can't comprehend the intonation over text or computer like you can in person or over the phone.

  4. Dont use spark notes instead of reading, it will end up costing you during the test and discussion.

Dont talk trash during sports events because the ref may see you and penalize you and your team.

Becca- I agree with your moral "Don't take shortcuts during practice, it will only cost you during the meet". When you cheat during practice you are not only cheating yourself but you are also cheating your team. When you cant compete the way you should be able to, your teammates will be mad at you because of your bad work ethic.

  5. Don't talk about someone behind their back because they will eventually find out and bust you.

Don't surrendur to peer pressure, you know you will feel bad about it in the end.

Matthew- I agree with your moral "Dont use spark notes instead of reading, it will end up costing you during the test and discussion." All the times I used sparknotes, I feel like I did worse on tests and discussions. I also feel like you don't learn any vocabulary from it and you don't see the author's message.

  6. Don't exclude people from a group, you will only feel guilty about it and you know you wouldn't want it to be you who was left out.

Be happy for your friends. If they have something that's great and that they're excited about, be excited for them. Don't get jealous.

Ryan- I agree with your moral "Don't talk about someone behind their back because they will eventually find out and bust you." This has happened to me several times and you're just in a horrible position. You feel terrible hiding what you said about the person as much as you feel terrible when they found out that you said it.

  7. Carly- I agree with your moral Don't exclude people from a group, because nobody really wins. Even though you mkight think you are cool for leaving somebody out of a group and your friends might laugh with you for 5 minutes, it's not worth the guilt you'll have with you for the rest of your life.

  9. although this is the most unorginial moral ever its the one i live by because i always find myself doing it " don't count other peoples money, because money doesnt buy you happiness" There are plenty of people that have more money that my family but im blessed to have a happy healthy family!

  10. my other favorite one is always tell the truth and you wont need a good memory!

there is never a reason to lie and you can never just tell one lie you find yourself telling more lies to cover up your first lie

  11. i agree with beccas moral although it might be easier to take a shortcut or just stop running you are only cheating yourself!

  12. Don't make a big deal out of small things because there is no reason to cause a huge commotion about something so little. In the end, you will regret that you got mad about something so insignificant.

Two wrongs don't make a right. If someone does something wrong to you, don't try and get them back by doing something just as bad. You should simply confront the person about what they did wrong to you which will make you the bigger person.

Rebecca- I agree with your moral "Don't wait until the last minute to do an important research paper, you might just find that your internet is down. (Don't procrastinate!)" There have been many times where I have tried to leave my assignments until last minute and it always ends up hurting you in the end. Your paper won't turn out as good as it had the potential to be because you are rushing it at the lat minute. Also, you may find a problem which you can't fix since it is last minute, such as the internet being down. There was a time where I left a paper until last minute and I went to go print it out and my printer wouldn't work.

  13. Don't do something stupid because you will end up being sorry in the end. ("Look before you leap.")

Don't wait until the last minute to do your homework, when you could've done it yesterday. ("Don't put off till tomorrow, what you can do today").

Ani- I agree with your moral "Don't start rolling on the floor after a Ravens touchdown, the play could get challenged and reversed. (Don't count your chickens before they're hatched)." Don't get your hopes up because you never know what might happen.

  14. hi.

Be a Positive Pauly, not a Negative Nelly. Negative Nelly never wins.

Don't sit around waiting for plans. Make life happen.

    WOO.

  15. I have to agree with Ani right now. Watching the Ravens game and checking up on your posts! Keep 'em coming! (and GO RAVENS!)

  16. When you're mad and e-mailing: type it, read it, delete it. You don't want someone to see something that you didn't mean when you were angry.

If you wouldn't want your parents to see it, don't put it on the internet. Stuff on the internet can be seen by anyone and everyone, so don't put up something stupid and/or inappropriate.

Sierra- I like your moral, "Don't sit around waiting for plans. Make life happen." I believe that life is too short to just let it pass you by. So, if you don't have plans on a night don't just sit around on your butt waiting for some to fall into your lap. Take the initiative , call your friends, and MAKE some plans.

  17. Alexis had to email me her post, so here it is!

A good moral that would be considered modern would be "dont talk about friends behind their back because you might end up alone". These days so many people easily betray their friends without thinking twice. But you never know when you might need a friend. So you should be nice to everyone. Another good moral that would apply today would be "be grateful for what you have because what you want isnt always better". For example someone who is an only child nay have what they want, but they are probably lonely without any brothers or sisters. There arent any posts yet. So i will have to post again later to talk about a classmates moral.

Ms. Rosens moral about sending a message and checking the contact is really good. I know everyone has sent a wrong text at least once before, and as you know this could cause problems. This is a very good moral that i will remember when sending a text next time!!

  18. Hi Sierra.

Don't go in over your head and then complain once you have trouble with it. Know your limits and don't just do something because everyone else is doing it, it's annoying.

    Life's a garden- Dig it.

I agree with Rebecca's moral don't procrastinate because that is something that every one of us does. I'm actaully doing it right now with my AP homework when really I want to watch the Emmy's. Not even with school work but in life you can't wait until the last minute because you won't succeed at everything.

I also agree with Sierra's moral because you life it too short to wait around and watch it pass you by. You aren't stuck with the terrible things in your life, you can make a change and change your circumstances if you really want it.

  20. Be content with what you have, your friends phone/ipod/computer will always be better than yours. (the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence)

Don't mess with some things, even if you are trying to help. It might just come back to bite you. (leave well enough alone.)

Max- I really liked your moral of type it, read it, delete it. I like to try to maybe write a letter and put it in a special place to read in about 2-3 days from when whatever happened. By then I have calmed down enough that I can go back and re-read the letter and realize how stupid I sounded. That helps me put tings in perspective and fix the issue.
